Jo Downton

My name is Jo Downton.  I am an university lecturer in sociology who has experience of personal loss.  I have for a number of years run a final year module on the Sociology of Death Dying and Bereavement.  After my own experiences of loss I believe it is vitally important to bring death into everyday life and have learnt from teaching young people at university of the great importance of creating space to talk of the inevitable end we all face.  As a sociologist I am committed to the idea of developing community spirit and wish to one day offer my services/support to anyone in my community who may be in need of help.  I am also hoping to further develop death education in a number of spheres whilst training with Living Well Dying Well.
